Dr Oz Helps Mom Have Birds & Bees Talk
A mom was watching Dr Oz when her son wandered into the room. The episode just so happened to be about a penis and a vagina, and the aging signs of the male and female anatomy. The clip was straight forward, for an adult. Unfortunately, the boy was only five and so he learned very, very early about male and female body parts. While the mom tried to ignore the little boy, he was relentless. She eventually went online and found a cartoon vagina and taught her son just what it was.
“He got a vagina and I got silence,” she said.
While it’s awkward, Dr Oz said that it really opened up a good conversation about the birds and the bees. The mom wasn’t’ ready for it at five, but being open and taking pride in your body is a good thing. That will make your kids strong and smart. He encourages parents to say the anatomy parts to their kids, because they are not a dirty word. Showing your kids that you can say it without laughing or cringing will make it easier on them.
Dr Oz: Awkward Family Photos Spark Health Motivation
Dr Oz debuted the Awkward Family Photos website, which he has a few as well. He said that the most awkward family photos can spark a health conversation.
First up, tanning beds. You don’t always get a healthy glow, sometimes you don’t realize you are cooking your skin. After an awkward photo from a gala, one woman decided to kick her tanning addiction in favor of her health. She realized that the tanning was aging her, but she still had the drive to go. One of Dr Oz’s episodes on the dangers of tanning finally convinced her to stop the addictive habit.
Trisha told Dr Oz that when she was getting married, she was overweight and most of her pictures show her holding up “granny panties.” They motivated her to get healthy, lose weight, and she ended up dropping over 100 pounds. Tisha said that eating healthy and exercise was what really helped. She has since locked away this embarrassing photo.
