John Oliver Takes Over The Daily Show
“Let’s all acknowledge for a moment that this is weird,” John Oliver opened. While yes, it is strange to not see Jon Stewart behind the Daily Show desk, the show is in capable British hands.
Oliver’s opening was all about how they were going to have summer fun on The Daily Show. He was going to make jokes about being British, have a little tea, and fly off with an umbrella at the end of the show. Oliver was left a letter by Jon Stewart about how no news breaks during the summer. But then, all heck broke loose. The news world imploded with scandal, whistleblowers, and government Scooby Doo-ing. Oliver had a mild panic attack.
The Daily Show Without Jon Stewart
Once in the swing of things, the show didn’t miss a beat without Stewart. I’m sure Stewart is off somewhere, directing his film and hoping that we’re all hopeless without his presence, but the thing is that we’re not. John Oliver is laugh out loud funny and brings you the news in the same way that Stewart always has.
The Daily Show: Seth Rogen Interview
Later in the show, Oliver interviewed his first celebrity, Seth Rogen. Probably a good choice if you have to warm up for more interviews. Rogen was easy going and happy that Oliver and Stewart share the same first name. Oliver was pleased that he enjoyed Rogen’s film This Is The End, because it would have sucked to lie and say he did.
If you want to see This Is The End, this is not the video to promote the film. Oliver focused a good amount on the giant Satan in the film and his large, swinging male anatomy.
