Dr Oz Healthy Alternatives to Ibuprofen & Ways to Prevent Hearing Loss

Does Aspirin Cause Hearing Loss?

New research is showing that ibuprofen can cause hearing loss. Dr Oz and the researchers behind this study offered alternatives to ibuprofen and acetaminophen.

Dr Sharon Curham saw no connection between hearing loss and aspirin. There are alternatives to taking ibuprofen, such as eating healthier and having a healthy body. Dr Craig Kasper said that antioxidants can also help with your hearing health. Taking them with a big glass of water, said Dr Oz, will help with pain.

Dr Oz looked at the ways to prevent hearing loss, starting with getting ibuprofen and acetaminophen out of your medicine cabinet.

Dr Oz: Ibuprofen Alternatives: Feverfew, Tart Cherry Juice & Water

A big glass of water can help pain? Dr Oz said that drinking water when a headache kicks in can help. It definitely helped me last night when I had a headache after an intense workout.

Another highly recommended remedy is feverfew. Dr Oz recommended 380 mg to prevent blood vessels from spasming, the root cause of headaches.

Also, tart cherry juice is good for joint pain. It has antioxidants that are excellent alternatives to ibuprofen, said Dr Kasper.

Dr Oz: What Does an Unhealthy Ear Look Like?

Dr Oz invited an audience member, Bonnie, onstage to talk about her hearing issues. She said she has all of the symptoms of hearing loss, including ringing ears. Her daughter was able to help her realize it was hearing loss.

Dr Craig Kasper, a researcher on the study, said that the first thing Bonnie needs to do is talk to a physician. These rules go for anyone experiencing hearing loss symptoms. 95% of the time, hearing loss is irreparable. It might just be wax build up, but a hole in the eardrum is not good. An audiologist can help you cope with hearing loss.

The first thing that doctors will do is look in the ear. Bonnie had a small amount of wax build up, but not enough to cause hearing loss. She needs to see a doctor. A healthy ear looks like it has many waves, but an unhealthy ear is full of wax. It’s not pretty and obviously unhealthy. There are few blurred lines here.

Dr Oz: How To Prevent Hearing Loss

Now that you know what hearing loss is and what causes it, here’s how to stay on top of your ear health!

Get your hearing checked every year or so and protect your ears when it’s loud. Ear plugs and sound cancelling headphones were made for a reason! You should avoid standing too close to speakers at concerts and wear ear plugs if you know that you are going to be in an overly loud setting. Dr Oz said that keeping your body health will go a long way to keeping your ears happy.
