Dr Oz’s Ultimate Cheat Sheet to Restart Your Body
Dr Oz’s show on How to Restart Your Body covered ways to improve the health of your thyroid, liver, heart and intestines. If you have health issues with any of these organs, or if you are concerned that you might now or in the future have problems with any of these organs, then this is a must read! I will cover all of the areas that Doctor Oz discussed, and then at the end I will even show you a fabulous worksheet that you can print and put on your fridge to inspire you on your mission to Restart Your Body with Dr Oz’s Cheat Sheet!
Dr Oz: Selenium Grocery List
Dr Oz first tackled the area of your thyroid. If you are feeling sluggish and are experiencing unexplained weight gain, your thyroid could be to blame! Doctor Oz put together a Thyroid Power Combo which involves a combination of iodine and Selenium-Rich foods. Where do you get iodine? In iodized salt of course. Who would have thought we would hear Dr Oz recommending that we actually add salt (only iodized salt though) to our diet?!?! Though in all fairness, he said that if you are going to use salt on your food, you may as well get iodine into your diet (he did not give you the green light to eat as much salt as you want of course!). By eating iodized salt and foods that are rich in selenium, you can help to restart your thyroid so that it functions better. What are some foods that are rich in Selenium? Here is a list to get you started:
- Brazil Nuts
- Sunflower Seeds
Dr Oz: Morning Liver Elixir Recipe
Dr Oz next tackled how to restart your liver. You can help to remove toxins from your overworked liver by drinking a special Morning Liver Elixir which you can make by combining the following ingredients:
- juice from 1 wedge of lemon
- 1/4 cup water (warm)
- 2 dashes hot sauce
Almost sounds like a bloody mary, right? Oh wait, that is how we get our liver into trouble in the first place…
Dr Oz: Extended Warranty on Your Heart
If your heart health has you worried, try Doctor Oz’s approach for getting an extended warranty on your heart. You can start by taking 600 mg of DHA Omega-3 Supplements every day. This can help to lower your cholesterol (which is great for your heart) and it stops plaque from being created (also a major plus for heart health).
Dr Oz: Prebiotics vs Probiotics for IBS
For anyone who suffers from intestinal issues or IBS (which seems to be what doctor’s diagnose you with if they can’t figure out why you have intestinal problems), this could be a major breakthrough for you! We have all heard of probiotics, which are the good bacteria that help your gut. However, probiotics need food in your gut to live, and prebiotics are what feed probiotics. So where do you get prebiotics? Try to eat 2-4 servings of prebiotic-rich foods like bananas, honey, raw garlic, raw onion and cooked whole grains. I’m thinking that a great way to start the day would be with greek yogurt (which has probiotics) topped with sliced bananas and honey drizzled on top (which are both rich in prebiotics). What do you think?
