Do you know who won the inauguration? Definitely Melania Trump! She was the epitome of grace and class from her powder blue Ralph Lauren dress to her Norisol Ferrari military coat. Many people aptly drew comparisons between Melania and Jackie O, with side-by-side photos like this one:
So which designers dressed Melania for Trump’s inauguration, and what did they think of her ensembles? Here is the breakdown.
Melania Trump’s Norisol Ferrari Military Coat
Melania’s military-inspired black coat that she wore to lay the wreath at Arlington National ceremony was designed by Norisol Ferrari, who said:
I was honoured to dress the First Lady of the United States for her visit to Arlington Cemetery. Throughout American history, our military personnel have faced difficult circumstances with courage and bravery. The men and women interred at Arlington gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country, as did their families who lost loved ones. We owe them our reverence and support.
Ferrari was horrified (and rightly so!) that several designers refused to dress Melania, saying:
I wanted to give her her own voice. Empowering women is all that matters to me. I do not discriminate whether for race, religion, colour of skin, sexuality, political affiliation… I really saw a person who is being misunderstood who is being scrutinized. She’s a woman and a mother and I am pro-woman. That at the end of the day is very important to me — equality for women and for all human beings. If that’s what I really believe, I had to do it.
I couldn’t have said it better myself! And as if I wasn’t totally in love with Norisol Ferrari at this point, she hit it over the top when she said:
God, I hope we can be a less angry nation.
But we are just getting started, wait until you see Melania’s gown on the next page… it is unreal!!!
Melania Trump’s Reem Acra Gown
Melania looks stunning in her gold-tone Reem Acra gown at Trump’s Pre-Inauguration dinner. The dress perfectly reflected the atmosphere at the candlelit affair, with the long sleeve, floor-length gown sparkling and shining. Reem Acra shared a photo of Melania on Instagram with the caption:
The First Lady of the United States. #ReemAcra.
Melania Trump’s Ralph Lauren Baby Blue Dress & Jacket Ensemble
And who could forget the timeless, powder blue dress and matching jacket ensemble by Ralph Lauren. I fully expect a surge in Lauren’s popularity, because her outfit was positively stunning. Melania wore this for Trump’s Inauguration Ceremony and lunch. Under the doubleface jacket with a collar cutaway was a mock-turtle dress. And to pull it all together with perfect class, she wore matching powder blue gloves and heels. Ralph Lauren said the following about Melania’s ensemble:
The presidential inauguration is a time for the United States to look our best to the world. It was important to us to uphold and celebrate the tradition of creating iconic American style for this moment.
If you think these are gorgeous though, wait until you see the collaboration that Melania did with Alice Roi on the next page…
Melania Trump’s Alice Roi Navy Cashmere Coat
At the National Prayer Service, the day after Trump’s inauguration, Melania wore a stunning navy coat designed by Alice Roi (with collaborative input from Melania herself!). Roi said about working with Melania on the collaboration:
She definitely knew what she wanted. She knows clothing well and she’s very direct. She has a wonderful, chic sense of style. That’s something no matter what you put on her she kind of exudes. It’s very guiding for the designer because you know exactly what to do to get in line with her right away… She knows what she wants even before she sees it. And it’s always with really, really good taste. That makes it easy because you don’t have to talk somebody out of anything.
