Back to School: Best Dorm Decor 2013
Going to college meant I got to redecorate my room. Well, I got a whole new room in a new city, but I got to choose everything in it. I thought I would just pick up whatever looked cool and whatever was cheap. As I moved in, I saw that people actually got matching sets of things. My clearance comforter was warm, but it wasn’t the cutest thing out there.
So to help you college freshman, or seniors looking for a new start, here are some of the cutest dorm decor for the 2013 season!
Target Bedding Back To School
First, pick a color scheme. You can get pretty much any color scheme you like, but for the purposes of this I’m going with a peacock color scheme. Target has some fantastic bed in a bag sets. I particularly love this set, because 90% of dorm rooms are white walls resembling a prison cell. This has everything you need – comforter, pillowcases, decorative pillows, sheets, and shams. It’s machine washable as well!
Make sure you get a memory foam egg crate. No matter how nice the college beds are, an eggcrate is always necessary.
Dorm Decor: Where To Buy An Area Rug
My main problem freshman and sophomore year was finding a good area rug. You can’t be comfortable and feel at home if you are walking around on the tile flooring more dorm rooms have.
You can get rugs almost anywhere, but I saved money and got a really quality rug by shopping carpet remnants. They’re just pieces of unused carpet that sell cheap. If price isn’t an object for you, Target has some pretty rugs that you can get to match your bedding colors.
Back To College: Target Dorm Decor
Now that you have the essentials, you can start to accessorizing! This is always the fun part. Hit up the poster sales on your campus, or shop Amazon for some cool wall art. The best thing I ever decorated with was a peel and stick wall decal of the London skyline. It last me all four years of college and I’m saving it to get framed.
If you have room, I suggest getting a comfy club chair. Bed Bath & Beyond have some that I’m even considering buying for my post-college life.
Thrift Shopping Dorm Room Decorations
Thrift stores are a good place to look for picture frames and mirrors. Think about what you’re interested in. If you are a music lover, find some old records at the thrift store and turn them into wall art. Do you like fashion? Use command hooks to display your jewelry or purses on the wall or in your closet.
Let me know what you’re doing in your dorm room! I love design ideas.
